2011 film makers comments

Dear participating film makers,
We would love you to send in your comments, photos and short video files to info@heartofgold.com.au or post them on facebook and we can collect from there. It was good of you to come and we would love to hear; how and where your films go and; your thoughts on the festival itself.
Lindsey Munce: Director: Off the streets: A build for humanity
(May 2011) We have both been talking about you guys quite a bit lately as I have continued the festival tour. I have been to a few festivals since being back in the states and WOW… each time I attend one the same thing goes through my mind. “I MISS GYMPIE!” You guys really do an amazing job with that festival. I have yet to find one that even comes close to the way we were treated there and as far as organization goes, there are just no words. I was in a fest in LA this past weekend and there were 2 venues about 3 miles apart from one another. A number of people traveled from across the states and even some from other countries. They had no transportation for these guys and LA is not an easy way to get around at all. I spent quite a bit of the weekend doing transport for them and was honestly shocked at the organization. Brian and I keep talking about needing to make another Heart of Gold quality film so we can come back to your festival as soon as possible. We were so spoiled by you guys and it was truly a lifetime highlight. Hats off to you.
Joe Villanti: Producer Bad Timing.
As a filmmaker I was invited to present and discuss my film to an audience that consisted of not only other filmmakers but also paying audience interested in the creative process. This was a first for me and I was amazed how well I was received and of the interest in the creative process I had used to make my film.
In the numerous film festivals over the past 10 years I have been involved in and having the good fortune to be a finalist and even greater fortune of winning at some major festivals I had never connected with other filmmakers as I did at Heart of Gold.
Megan Riakos: Director & Producer of Making Tracks
This was the first festival where I was invited to do a Q & A session as apart of ‘Meet the Filmmaker’ and it was a wonderful way to gauge an audience’s reaction to my film in an immediate way. It was nice to be able to share what I learnt and the story behind the film with the audience too, and when I went as an audience member to these sessions, it helped me to engage on a personal level with other Filmmakers.
Director Sandy Garfunkel: Perhaps Tomorrow
Thank you all so much for having “Perhaps Tomorrow” at Heart of Gold. The entire community was incredibly generous and kind, and we truly enjoyed spending time with each and every person we met. We hope to be back soon!
Genevieve Bailey: Director Coconuts
We had a wonderful wonderful time at the festival, thanks so much for all being so awesome and fun! We want to come back and screen our films every year! : )
Andy Mullins: Director Minnie loves Junior.
Heart of Gold is the kind of festival we shot this film for. Gympie is the kind of place we were dreaming to screen at. And I have absolutely no doubt your precious festival will soon be as widely known throughout Australia as it is in Europe (isn’t that a bloody weird thing to say!).
Lindsey Munce: Director Off the streets: A Build for Humanity
‘It’s such a neat community festival. I haven’t seen so much community involvement before. I’m very sad to be leaving and I’m looking forward to coming back”
Emmanuel Sapolsky
Wish I was there… Warm regards from Paris

“We had a fantastic four days at the Festival and were amazed at the quality and variety of films screened. The Film Maker Presents sessions each day were excellent and it was interesting to hear from the various producers as they talked about their movie and gave us an insight into what went on behind the scenes. Special thanks to Malcolm, Michael, Cayte, Janine, and all the volunteers and the committee. You made our four days at the Heart of Gold Film Festival something we will remember forever. ” Colin and Jan Usher
