Artist: Karen Flynn
Medium: acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 78cm x 78cm
Although I have spent much of my life living in Queensland, residing in the United States for five years made me appreciate the rich cultural and social heritage of home. I am interested in decommissioned industrial sites now in dilapidated states well past their “boom days”, particularly those that have left their mark and resonance on those that interact with them today. This Painting is of “the Reedy Hut”, and residents of Scotchy Pocket would recognise it as a local landmark.
Karen Flynn completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Hon) at James Cook University. She has travelled widely, competing for Australia in the winter sport of Luge. Having worked in different fields while raising a family, she currently works at Brisbane Boys’ College as a Library Technician.
